Saint Saviour

Saint Saviour (Becky Jones) returns with her first new music in five years in the shape of ‘The Place I Want To Be’ feat. Damon Gough aka Badly Drawn Boy. ‘The Place I Want To Be’ is a fragile song built around a delicately played dulcitone and mystical vocals which are gradually embellished creating something both wistful and strong.

The music of Saint Saviour has always been a powerful experience, be it soul baring righteousness, or finding the dignity of getting back on your feet through difficult-times – there’s strength throughout, no matter how it finds you.

On ‘The Place I Want To Be’, there’s something stirring – we’re hearing a song of experience; the cycles of life through loss, new life, working through pain, anger, joy – it’s all there, permeating through the gorgeously tender song.

Damon on the single: Becky asked me to sing on her song The Place I Want To Be …When she sent the song over, I immediately loved it and knew I had to do it! It was a pleasure to work in the studio with Becky and John.. and an honour to be part of such a beautiful song, by a truly gifted Artist !”

In her new work, we’re not seeing Becky Jones in the mode of a character actor, taking on stories and firing them upwards into life – that’s all been replaced by something more personal, yet still looking outward. There’s something in the air, as we’ve seen with the likes of Aldous Harding and Weyes Blood, 2019 is ushering something more personal; something with a deeper honesty.

Despite being away for a couple of years, Saint Saviour is still a songwriter and singer in demand; her music has been featured in a HBO series (The Young Pope) and six of her songs were in Jeanie Finlay’s critically acclaimed film Seahorse. She was also Grammy nominated for co-writes with Groove Armada and has also written with the likes of Mura MasaMaribou StateCelesteBillie BlackCosha and Adam Betts/Colossal Squid.
