“Michael Nau…is Father John Misty on vacation”UPROXX

Michael Nau returns today with new single ‘I Root’, his third from the forthcoming ‘Some Twist’, out June 16th on Full Time Hobby.

There’s an undeniable beauty on ‘I Root’. Guitar, organ and bass work together in total harmony. Nau‘s trademark humor is present and it’s deployed with sincerity on lines like “Everyone’s carrying something / Maybe you’re carrying me and I’m carrying you.”

‘I Root’ is a continuation of his recent string of stellar singles from‘Some Twist’ including ‘Light That Ever’ and ‘Good Thing’. Those tracks affect a woozy but bright vibe that has recently caught the attention of radio across the globe including KCRW, BBC, Beats1, CBC and Radio France.

This week, Nau embarks on a short solo tour of intimate venues from Chicago to Nashville. He’ll then head to Europe for a longer headline run later this fall. Those tickets go on sale May 15th at 9AM British Summer Time. A full list of dates is below.

More Praise For Michael Nau:

“Have you ever had a Painkiller cocktail…on a sunny afternoon? That’s what ‘Good Thing’ sounds like: sweet, a little fuzzy, and good for the soul.” – The FADER

“Nau’s impressively stripped down approach to what can only be described as a combination of country-twanged, folk laden, soul pop is all at once relaxing, like a tall glass of cold gin at the end of a long hard week.”What Youth

“Nau makes sun dappled pop music, Stax-esque soul marked with hints of psychedelia and the deadpan heartbroken delivery of someone like Cass McCombs.”Passion of the Weiss

“Reminiscent of The War on Drugs’ ‘Lost In The Dream,’ Nau’s ‘Good Thing’ creates a dreamscape in reality, a soundtrack for making plans for the future and moving on. Lead both by Nau’s melodic voice and the sweet notes of the piano, the meandering guitar and buzzing analog sound creates an oddly uplifting symphony”The Wild Honey Pie

“‘Light That Ever’ is a sublime blend of classic pop brilliance, with dusty, vintage vibes aplenty, and rugged country-twanged folk. It’s subtly decadent, if that can be a thing, with lush layers and velvet harmonies meshing behind Nau’s vocal display – a spray of percussion, wires of guitar, brassy ebbs, and metronomic keys all ooze into earshot as the seconds tick by, with every piece melting together beautifully.”The Line of Best Fit

“‘Light That Ever’ is further proof that he’s cooking up Summer’s best record”UPROXX
